Valentine’s Day Viral Video

One of my favorite ongoing viral video campaigns is Blend Tech’s video series, Will It Blend?

In true guerrilla marketing fashion, they regularly release a new video featuring the company’s president using their product in highly unconventional ways.

(Feed readers be sure to click through for the video)

I enjoyed this video, and take comfort in knowing that not only does my wife not buy such things for me, she also doesn’t expect them in return. I guess that might be considered bad news for Blend Tech… although they do say “don’t try this at home.”

If you haven’t seen the series, be sure to check out their YouTube channel page. They blend everything from broom handles to footballs… light bulbs to iPods… iPhones to crow bars… and everything in between.

These are fun, but it leads me to my question: In what ways could you use your product or service in a unique way that would generate attention and get people talking? Any ideas? Post ‘em! If not, ask… maybe we can all help you come up with an idea! :)

Boy did I get sucked into that one. I started watching one and ended up watching 6 or 7. Is there no end?
What a great idea. It makes me wonder what we have around here that can be used for something other than what it was originally made for. HHHHHHmmmmmmmmm.

OK…I’m open to suggestions. Check out our website to get an idea of what it is we do. I’m asking.

    Hi Scott.

Glad to hear I wasn’t the only one that got sucked into these. :)

Hmmmmm. Your brand is certainly more difficult to wrap an idea around. Where Blend Tech has one core product, you have many products reaching many industries, and on top of that you have a service-side of your business too. Another difficult task is meshing any idea with your brand, without “un-professionalizing” it. For that reason, “viral” in the silly sense isn’t good for every brand. That needs to be looked at carefully before venturing forward.

That being said, my goal here is not to see what fits with your brand, but to actually come up with ideas that might get some traction out there. So, I’m going to just throw a few ideas out there… see if these spark any other ideas…

    Linens & Uniforms
The core issue here is going to be durability and appearance. You could go with cheesy infomercial style videos that show your linens really taking a beating. Stains. Abuse. Use your creativity to come up with wacky ways to really put them to the test. After a quick wash though… they’re good as new!

Another thought: the old “yank the tablecloth out from under” trick. You could come up with some unusual objects to place on said tablecloth, and with some practice, an intern could really start to get good at this.

    Bathroom supplies

Air freshener: come up with a bunch of really stinky situations and send in the intern to see if the air freshener helps mask the pew. Doesn’t have to be bathroom related. Think “dirty jobs” but more like “stinky jobs”.

Urinal blocks: Hmmm. this might seem gross, but… I’m hunting for unconventional ideas. Play up the “urinal mints” theme and use these in recipes. I know, sounds bad… but who can resist watching a cake decorator really dress up a stack of urinal mints? Or how about a nice urinal mint sundae? Maybe layer a block between two delicious layers of chocolate cake? Just a thought.

Those jumbo rolls of T.P. are just begging to be used to decorate someone’s cubicle, car, or front yard… Yeah. Juvenile. I know, I know.

All I have for now. Any other ideas?

Now that I re-read that… I sort of see a theme. “Send in the intern!”

    Poor interns.
