Quality Control

Make sure your business has some sort of quality control systems in place. Then tweak them… FOREVER!

I ordered some business cards from overnightprints.com after reading a recent blog post by Seth Godin where he recommended their services.

Ordering was a snap! Delivery was quick! Quality of stock and print was great!

BUT… (there’s always a but) there was a hitch. Let’s just say the word “crooked” doesn’t even come close to describing these cards. I mean, the print is crooked and the cards are not even cut square, they’re more of a rhombus or a trapezoid. I don’t know if they had a mechanical problem, a new employee, or what. But what is clear is that their quality control systems failed.

What do you think? Would you hand these cards out being so crooked? (sorry for the crappy print, it’s my little web cam’s fault)

The lesson here? You might have a great product, but everything is doomed to fail now and then — ever heard of Murphy? — Make sure your quality control systems are working and keep improving them over time.

(Hopefully, for overnightprints.com’s sake, I’m one of only a few disappointed customers.)

I’ve ordered from this company before as well as was not very happy with the outcome. You’re right, no matter what company it is, sometimes things slip through quality control and the business card won’t come out the way it was intended to.

The only thing I can suggest for quality business cards is a company www.mind2print.com. I was referred to them by a friend and though they don’t a flashy website their business cards were great in quality, service was excellent and they were cut perfectly :) Great blog.

    Steve,

Thanks for the tip! I ended up using 4colorprint.com… happy with the results.

    Sandy,

I did finally get this resolved. Sadly, I had to go through the BBB arbitration system, I wish I didn’t have to go that route, but they did finally live up to their promise of a money back guarantee.

They have been very busy lately it seems, which is why they were not able to respond in a timely manner to my inquiries. If I wasn’t in a situation where I was without cards altogether, I might have been willing to let them reprint, but I couldn’t wait for the red tape.
